Trinity Capital reported $98.4 million in total investment income and net investment income of $49.9 million, or $0.52 per share, for the third quarter of 2026. The company said the per-share result covered 103% of its quarterly distribution. Total investment income was up 30% from the year-earlier period.
The business development company committed $880.5 million in debt and equity during the quarter and funded $614.1 million, adding 15 portfolio companies. It had $1.4 billion in unfunded commitments at September 30, including $126 million of unconditional commitments to 17 companies.
Debt investments totaled $2.5 billion at cost, and investments across debt and equity reached $2.8 billion. Platform assets under management, including assets managed by affiliate funds, stood at $3.4 billion. Trinity reported an effective portfolio yield of 15.2%, including fees and accelerated income from prepayments, and a core yield of 12.8% excluding those items.
The portfolio was spread across five lending areas: technology, equipment finance, healthcare and life sciences, sponsor finance, and asset-based lending. The company said its largest credit exposure was less than 3% of debt investments. At fair value, 99.3% of debt investments were performing, and the weighted average credit rating was 3.1, compared with 2.9 a year earlier.
Floating-rate investments made up 78.4% of debt investments by outstanding principal, while 42.1% of borrowings carried floating rates. Trinity estimated that a 100-basis-point rise in rates would add about $9 million in annual net income, or $0.09 per share. A 200-basis-point increase was estimated to add $21.3 million, or $0.22 per share. The company said rate floors on many floating-rate assets limited the impact of rate declines.
Trinity had $225 million in available liquidity at September 30: $20.7 million in cash and cash equivalents and $204.3 million in available borrowing capacity on its KeyBank credit facility. Its net leverage ratio was 1.17x. The company also reported $66.8 million in undistributed income, or $0.69 per share.
The presentation said Trinity had paid regular quarterly dividends for 28 consecutive quarters. Regular dividends totaled $12.08 per share cumulatively through September 30, 2026, and supplemental dividends added $0.70 per share. The annualized dividend yield was 11.6%, based on the third-quarter monthly dividend of $0.17 per share and the September 30 closing share price of $17.55.
Trinity said it entered the fourth quarter with its largest pipeline to date and expected deployment to continue across its lending verticals. Its plans include growing the managed funds platform; the company said its SBIC fund had secured more than $75 million in equity commitments and could reach over $300 million in total capacity at scale. Management also described a sponsor-finance joint venture with Capital Southwest that could provide up to $500 million in capacity.
Management expects 2027 to be a “spread flat to up year,” according to the presentation, as tighter liquidity and more challenging fundraising in private credit could improve pricing on new loans. The company said it intends to keep net leverage around 1.17x and use its at-the-market equity program when share issuance is accretive to shareholders.
