Magnolia Oil & Gas will report third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, marking its first quarterly results since completing its acquisition of WildFire Energy in October. Management described the deal as a step toward building “the premier Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk operator.”
Analysts expect earnings of 59 cents per share on revenue of $466.1 million for the September quarter. Those estimates are below Magnolia’s second-quarter results of 99 cents per share and $478.8 million in revenue. Compared with the same period last year, however, expected earnings are up 47% and revenue is 43% higher.
Investors will be looking for evidence that the WildFire integration is delivering operational synergies and could strengthen free cash flow. Discussions between UBS analysts and management in October covered the early integration plan, its progress, and updated guidance for the fourth quarter and 2027.
The company’s production outlook for 2027 is another focus. UBS said discussions included expectations for faster oil growth next year. Investors are also likely to assess any guidance on production and capital efficiency as Magnolia’s shares have recently underperformed the energy sector.
Commodity prices add uncertainty. Crude fell more than 7% on Monday amid hopes for U.S.-Iran peace talks, while the industry faces its largest oil supply surplus since the 2020 pandemic. Magnolia’s approach to maintaining shareholder returns through price volatility will therefore be closely watched.
In late October, Magnolia declared a quarterly dividend of 18 cents per share, continuing its annual dividend growth record dating back to 2021. The shares closed Monday at $25.05, near the lower end of their 52-week range of $21.07 to $32.76.
Analyst sentiment remains positive: 15 of the 20 analysts covering the company rate it a buy, while five recommend holding the stock. Their average price target is $33.06, implying 32% upside from current levels. Revenue estimates have risen 19% over the past two months, and earnings estimates have increased 2%.
Magnolia’s second-quarter results exceeded expectations, with earnings per share of 99 cents against an 85-cent consensus and revenue of $478.8 million, nearly 10% above estimates. Wednesday’s report will show how the company’s integration plans and financial priorities are progressing as it enters 2027 amid a challenging oil market.
