US manufacturing activity strengthened in October, with the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index increasing one point to 55.5, according to data released Monday.

The reading was the sector’s second-highest in more than four years, while the production gauge recorded its best result since late 2021. The figures indicate that factory output picked up during the month.

Michael McKee reported on the data for Bloomberg Television.
