Ukraine’s dollar Bonds advanced on Wednesday as investors assessed the prospect that a decisive Democratic win in the US midterm elections could improve relations between Kyiv and Washington and help the country’s defense efforts.

The country’s 4.5% notes due in 2034 rose by more than a cent on the dollar, trading above 63 cents for the first time in more than a month. Ukrainian bonds were among the strongest performers in emerging markets, according to the reported market reaction.

The gains followed a heavy election defeat for President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.
