Next-day spot power prices in Tokyo and Chubu rose to multi-year highs on Sunday, according to data from the Japan Electric Power Exchange. The increases came as elevated fuel costs lifted prices in two of Japan’s largest electricity-consuming areas.
The Tokyo-area price increased 1.1% from the previous week to ¥36.11 per kilowatt-hour, while the Chubu-area price rose 7.2% to ¥36.29 per kilowatt-hour. Both were the highest levels recorded since September 2022.
By contrast, the nationwide average spot power price fell 8.7% on a weekly basis to ¥30.09 per kilowatt-hour on Sunday.
