Synopsys shares fell 2% in morning trading to $456.73 as investors reacted to Anthropic’s IPO roadshow disclosure of a 15-person hardware team using Claude models to shorten chip engineering timelines. The news has renewed concerns that AI companies developing chip-design capabilities could reduce reliance on established electronic design automation providers.

The disclosure follows OpenAI’s announcement in September that it was developing custom silicon. Synopsys is also facing continued selling pressure after a sharp decline in the previous session, and its shares remain below their 52-week high of $539.48.

A filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission showed that One Way Holdings LLC cut its Synopsys position by nearly 99% in the third quarter. Investors are also assessing the company’s valuation and execution risks related to its large acquisition of Ansys and the work of integrating the business.

The broader market was mixed, with the Nasdaq edging higher and the Dow Jones slipping as Americans voted in the 2026 midterm elections. Uncertainty over potential fiscal and regulatory changes, alongside JOLTS job openings data released that morning, added to pressure on growth stocks.

Despite the concerns, analysts cited in the report said Synopsys’ longer-term position in AI-driven chip design remained broadly intact, including through partnerships with OpenAI and Amazon.
