New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has urged port and terminal operators in the state to reject shipments of Russian Diesel permitted under a recent Treasury Department license. She argues that the authorization conflicts with federal law and says the state will use its legal and regulatory powers to block the fuel from entering through New Jersey.
In a letter to operators dated Monday, Sherrill said the license, issued last month, allows the sale, delivery and importation of Russian diesel despite a 2022 law banning imports of Russian oil products after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She also warned that at least one tanker carrying the fuel may be heading for the state.
