More than half of the London bridges crossing the River Thames that have reported their condition are rated “poor” or “very poor,” the lowest categories, according to Satbir Gill, chairman of the London Technical Advisors Group, a local government advisory body.
Gill told the London Assembly’s transportation committee on Tuesday that only six of the 30 bridges that supplied data were in good or fair condition. Eight bridges have not yet provided the requested information.
The crossing in Chelsea has deteriorated after heavy vehicles were recently diverted from a nearby bridge. Full details on the condition of the crossings are expected to be published next month.
