Iran and Saudi Arabia are continuing talks on regional security, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tuesday. Tehran is seeking arrangements for countries in the region that would not involve foreign military forces, he wrote on X.

The comments followed a meeting last week in Tehran between Iranian officials and senior representatives from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan. It was the first high-level contact between Iran and those three countries since August. Saudi Arabia said the visit aimed to establish channels for negotiations and prevent a renewed military escalation.

Meanwhile, fighting involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement has intensified in recent weeks. Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia increased as the group advanced toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a major shipping chokepoint.

The Houthis have also targeted Saudi oil facilities and airports, including Riyadh’s international airport, disrupting flights and oil exports. Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes in Yemen.

Yemen has been in a civil war since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, from the internationally recognized, Saudi-backed government in 2014.
